Kōyō: The Art of Japanese Omakase Architecture
Kōyō is a conceptual exploration of contemporary Japanese dining through the lens of architectural poetry. Drawing inspiration from the seasonal beauty of falling leaves and the theatrical ritual of omakase, the design reinterprets tradition with sculptural forms, kinetic elements, and immersive spatial storytelling. From the origami-inspired ceiling that breathes above the entryway to the glowing cocoon around the chef’s counter, each space is crafted as a quiet performance—where texture, shadow, and light guide the guest through an unfolding narrative. Layered materials such as blackened steel, hinoki wood, volcanic stone, and washi paper are choreographed to evoke stillness, contrast, and reverence. Kōyō is not just a dining space—it’s a curated passage between worlds, where every step, seat, and surface is part of the experience.
